Our Young Peacemakers Network (YPN) is a network of young people interested in peace and conflict issues, who are interested and involved in FoRE’s work. It connects young people into a community of peacemakers for informal peer support and shared learning. Our current membership model is relaxed and informal and you can become a member simply by attending an FoRE conference or training event. The YPN has 135 members and continues to grow.
Through the YPN we promote opportunities such as delegations, exchanges and events. Members receive a free mailing three times a year with news and updates. We also have a ‘Called to Be Peacemakers’ Facebook group where you can connect directly with other members and a Twitter account.
Every year, our Called to Be Peacemakers residential weekend
conference provides an opportunity for the YPN to gather together and
explore a specific peace or conflict issue, as well as gain new
knowledge and skills. Past conferences have explored topics such as: Creating Communities of
Peace, Peacemaking, Religious Right and Wrongs in Contemporary
Conflict, Conflict Transformation and Relationships.
Although the YPN is network for young people in the UK, through our
membership of the IFOR Youth Working Group we encourage international
attendance at our conferences and training events and are able to offer
YPN members opportunities to take part in international
trainings.
In August 2010, members of the YPN took part in a
week-long training, Connecting Peace: Connecting Nonviolence in
Austria, with 30 young people from over 9 EU countries, including
participants from the Balkans region.
We also support a number of youth and peace projects internationally via our International Peacemakers Fund.
