Women make up close to 50% of the world's population and have been a key, if hidden, player in many of history's political and social movements. This 100th anniversary provides a chance to celebrate the unique stories of some women who have challenged the world and changed history, so we are marking it with a free resource pack [Right-click to download - PDF, 616 Kb] and accompanying radio play [Right-click to download mp3], free to download today.
The resource
The four women featured in the resource each changed history in different ways:
- Muriel Lester helped form Fellowship of Reconciliation and created links with Ghandi and his non-violent movement in India
- Diana Francis is a prolific and talented theologian and activist. She is also patron of the International Peacemakers' Fund
- Rosa Parks refused to move from her seat, inspiring a world-changing non-violent movement in the United States
- Sabah Abu M'dgam challenged ideas about the role of women, in order to provide inspiration when defending her community's rights
Also featured in the resource are prayers, a reflection on the story of Esther, and a challenge to hold a pancake party for peace.
The Radio Play: Stone Tales
The play features the life of Muriel Lester, and is ideal for sharing at church, in groups, or at local events. It was initially written for a joint conference between FoRE, and Pax Christi. This specially recorded version has been produced to promote the International Peacemakers Fund which supports practical peacemakers around the globe.
