Young Peacemakers Network

Welcome to the Young Peacemakers webpage! FoR believes young people are the present and future of peacework in today's society. We have a range of events to accompany, assist and encourage young people in their peacemaking. We are flexible with the groups we work with, so whatever your age, and whatever your knowledge of peace and conflict issues, we'll have something for you.

The Young Peacemakers Network is a loose association of people interested in peace and conflict issues and who are interested in or involved in FoR's work. Below, we have briefly described the work we do with young peacemakers, but should you want to know more, have any questions, or would like to request our input please don't hestitate to get in touch by phoning the FoR office on 01865 748 796, writing to Fellowship of Reconciliation, St James Church Centre, Beauchamp Lane, Oxford, OX4 3LF, or via email.

Events

Called to be Peacemakers Conference 2007FoR runs a range of events young peacemakers can get involved in. Each autumn we have our annual Called to be Peacemakers Conference, a residential weekend event for 18 to 30 (ish) year olds, which explores a specific peace or conflict issue. Click here to read about the Called to be Peacemakers Conference 2008 and on the following links to read reports of the last two year's conferences: Called to be Peacemakers Conference 2007 and Called to be Peacemakers Conference 2006.

Building Bridges ...Breaking BoundariesThroughout the year, FoR is also involved in a number of other events. In May 2007 we held a joint seminar with Action Reconciliation Service for Peace entitled Building Bridges ... Breaking Boundaries. Click here to read about the event.

We also attend and participate in the annual conferences and events of a number of other peace, student and campaigning organsiations events during the year, including Student Christian Movement's annual conference this year entitled Reading the Bible, SPEAK's annual conference Soundcheck, and the Greenbelt Christian Arts Festival.

Peacemaker Briefings

Peacemaker Briefing 01Peacemakers Briefings are short articles on a specific peace or conflict subject which are published three times a year. We hope that Peacemaker Briefings will be used by schools, colleges, universities, churches, peace groups and individuals as sources of information for talks, workshops and discussions.

The Peacemaker Briefings provide an analysis of the situation, recommended resources on the issue and opportunities for activism. They will cover a wide range of national and international peace and conflict themes and are available to download from the Resources Page, can be emailed to you upon publication, or mailed - please contact us if you would like this free resource.

Also, if you have any ideas for themes you would like to see covered then please email or phone the FoR office on 01865 748 796. Click here to see the latest Peacemaker Briefing.

Based upon data collected from 26 universities across the UK, the report examines military involvement in students education. To read more about the project click here.
